What it does

InBrowser keeps every browsing session private by design. Close the app and its history, cookies and session data are removed, so the next session starts clean.

I originally built it for Android at a time when the platform’s built-in browser had no private browsing mode. It grew from a small app that solved that one problem into a full browser, later available on both Android and iOS, with features including tabbed browsing and Tor support on Android through Orbot.

How it was built

The first version came from a very simple need: I wanted to browse something on my phone without leaving it in the browser history, and Android did not give me a good way to do that. So I built one.

The important part was not adding a private tab to a normal browser. The entire browser was private. That changed a lot of small design decisions – what gets stored, what happens when the app closes, how sessions are handled, and even making sure Android did not leave screenshots of private pages behind in the recent-apps view.

What started as a small personal utility ended up reaching millions of installs and becoming a long-running privacy browser.

Status

I no longer maintain InBrowser myself. Development was later handed over to Private Internet Access, who continue to maintain and distribute the Android and iOS versions.
