What it does

Compadre is where you keep track of the game you are playing. What you were doing last session, which quest you left half-finished, where you hid the thing you will definitely need later.

The web version at compadre.gg is a Notion-style workspace built for that: a quest log, a game library, rich text journals and campaign notes, session and NPC planning, reminders, and an AI companion for when you are genuinely stuck. First login creates the account - there is no separate signup.

How it was built

Compadre started as a mobile app in 2020 and stayed there for three years. It never reached 1.0.

• August 2020 - first public release. Games and to-dos, swipe to delete, keyboard actions.
• December 2020 - a rebuilt signup flow, because the first one lost people.
• August 2021 - reminders.
• September 2021 - a free-text notepad per game, added because a user called Beau asked for it.
• August 2023 - version 0.9.1, the last mobile release.
• Now - rebuilt as a web app at compadre.gg, where development continues.

The mobile app kept running into the same wall: people wanted to write properly, search what they had written, and keep separate notes per playthrough. That is a document editor, and a document editor is a much better fit for a browser than for a phone screen. Moving to the web was less a pivot than an admission of what the thing had always been trying to be.

Status

Active development is on the web at compadre.gg. The mobile apps are still available and still work, but the last release was August 2023 and new features are not going there. Around 1,000 installs on Android.
