What it does

Tell AI Travel Guide where you are going and what kind of trip you want, and it turns that into recommendations you can explore in a conversation. The app covers landmarks, local attractions, food, hidden gems and other places worth adding to the day.

It is both a guide and a lightweight planner. You can add travel dates, ask follow-up questions in the chat-like interface, pin locations you want to remember and use the same app whether you are planning ahead or already standing in the destination.

How it was built

AI Travel Guide shipped in May 2023, when conversational AI made it possible to build a travel guide that could respond to the person using it instead of serving the same list to everyone.

• May 2023 – first release on iOS and Android.
• June 2023 – broader worldwide recommendations, multilingual conversations and location pinning.
• July 2023 – manual location entry so smaller destinations could be explored without relying on automatic location data.
• August 2023 – AI model upgrades and optional travel dates for more relevant recommendations.
• September 2023 – an interaction guide for getting better travel answers, plus the final round of performance and maintenance work.

The useful part was not simply putting a chatbot in an app. The travel context had to stay narrow enough that the conversation kept producing practical suggestions instead of becoming a general-purpose assistant with a map icon.

Status

Still available on both the App Store and Google Play. The latest listed releases date from September 2023 – iOS version 1.2.6 shipped on September 21, 2023, and Google Play lists its last update as September 13, 2023.
